Egypt has launched a historic nationwide airborne geophysical mineral survey, the first of its kind in over 40 years. Led by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), the initiative forms a key pillar of Egypt’s economic strategy to maximize the value of its mineral wealth.

A Joint Effort for Earth Intelligence

The project brings together global expertise and domestic technology leaders. The survey is executed through a contract with Spanish firm Xcalibur Smart Mapping, in close cooperation with the Nuclear Materials Authority (NMA) and local aerial scanning specialist Drone Tech.

  • **Airborne Geophysics**: Xcalibur is deploying specialized aircraft equipped with advanced gravity, magnetic, and electromagnetic sensors.
  • **Low-Altitude Drone Scan**: Drone Tech provides high-resolution low-altitude drone coverage in rugged or restricted terrains, integrating aerial datasets.
  • **Subsurface Digital Twin**: AI analytics process the multi-source geospatial data to create a high-precision digital database of Egypt's resources.

    The survey spans six strategic regions: the Eastern Desert (Northern & Southern), the Western Desert, the Sinai Peninsula, the Bahariya Oasis, and the Abu Tartour mining areas. By mapping these territories, the Ministry aims to dramatically reduce exploration risks and costs, attracting international mining investment.
